After working in the forest industry for 22 years I moved to Victoria, B.C. and re-trained in Photojournalism at the Western Academy of Photography. The Written Image Program teaches newspaper, magazine, travel, creative, fiction and non-fiction writing styles as well as photography techniques for news, sports, advertising, portraiture, architecture, nature and wildlife. The course also covers magazine layout and publishing and black and white film development and printing. One of the projects during the year was designing media kits for new businesses; this was my introduction to Graphic Design. Building on an idea to combine professional photography with graphic and web design led to enrollment in the Internet Business Technology Program offered through Selkirk College in Nelson, B.C.
